Palmetto Dunes is the second largest plantation on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. Besides being the second largest, it is also the second oldest being established in the early 1970's. The plantation is centrally located on Hilton Head Island making it one of the best locations for visitors. Right across William Hilton Parkway (Highway 280) is Shelter Cove Marina which is the mid island hot spot of Hilton Head offering great shops, great food and weekend activities for the family.

Palmetto Dunes has two residential areas outside of the gates called “Queens Grant” and “St. Andrews Commons” both offering excellent villas with lagoon views. Then there is the North Gate and the South Gate. Once inside the South Gate you have access to the Hilton Beach Resort and other resorts such as Inverness Village which is situated right on the golf course. The North Gate offers Beach access and homes, for rent or to own, on the ocean.

The Dunes House, which is a deck type structure located on the beach with bathrooms, vendors in the summer and showers to rinse off, hails from the North Gate. The Dunes House is available to rent for events such as weddings or large family gatherings.

Palmetto Dunes is an excellent resort for visitors who do not wish to drive while on their stay in Hilton Head. Everything is accessible by foot or by bike. Piggy Wiggly, located in Shelter Cove is just a short bike ride away, only about 2 miles. If guests have a desire to go somewhere a little further, Palmetto Dunes offers a free taxi service called the “Dunes Buggy” which only runs from late March to late October. The Dunes Buggy will take you anywhere from Palmetto Dunes to just about anywhere on the island with a call ahead of time and will usually arrive to pick you up within ten minutes of calling.

If you are looking for a place to have dinner with an excellent and low key atmosphere Palmetto Dunes offers Alexanders. Just outside the gates tucked behind palm trees overlooking the lagoon. Their menu consists almost solely of seafood with some other items. The dress code is casual but nice.

Next door to Alexanders is Palmetto Dunes Outfitters. At PD Outfitters, they offer bike rentals, kayak rentals and canoe rentals. They offer lessons for kayaking or canoing for beginners as well.

Palmetto Dunes also offers a general store for your convenience located just outside of the gates that offers a small selection of almost everything including souvenirs and groceries.

Palmetto Dunes offer a lot of opportunities for golf and tennis. There are over 25 tennis courts available for rent to guests. There are also three golf courses that are available for tee times. There are also opportunities for golf or tennis lessons from one of the highly trained golf or tennis professionals in Palmetto Dunes.

To conclude, there are plenty of things to do in Palmetto Dunes that will keep guests enthralled and entertained on their vacation.
